BUILDING A GLOBAL HUB IN CENTRAL ASIA

BUILDING A GLOBAL HUB IN CENTRAL ASIA

UZBEKISTAN has always been a crossroads of trade, with the goal of modernising its legacy to become a global air cargo hub, leveraging its strategic location to develop a network that supports seamless logistics and drives economic growth. By capitalising on its geographic advantage, Uzbekistan is emerging as a key player in the Belt and Road Initiative’s (BRI) air logistics framework.

This aligns with the country’s ambition to integrate into global supply chains, attract foreign investment, and enhance trade.

Fleet expansion

My Freighter’s ambitious plans to expand its fleet to 20 freighter aircraft within five years reflect the company’s commitment to scale its operations.

“With a larger fleet, we’ll be able to connect Uzbekistan not only with major markets in Asia and Europe but also with North America, opening up new opportunities for trade,” Abdulaziz Abdurakhmanov, Founder and CEO of My Freighter, stated.

The fleet expansion is designed to support growing demand for time-sensitive shipments, including e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, and high-value goods. My Freighter’s current operations focus on optimising routes and reducing transit times, critical factors for maintaining competitiveness in the global air cargo market.

e-commerce in the spotlight

The exponential rise of e-commerce is reshaping global logistics, and Uzbekistan is no exception. Abdurakhmanov highlighted how e-commerce is driving demand for faster and more efficient air freight solutions.

“We are seeing unprecedented growth in e-commerce volumes, particularly from China to Europe, and Uzbekistan is uniquely positioned to serve as a transit hub for this traffic,” he noted. By establishing direct connections with Chinese manufacturing hubs and European consumer markets, My Freighter aims to streamline the movement of goods, reducing delivery times and boosting reliability.

Building capacity

To realise its vision, My Freighter is investing heavily in infrastructure and fostering strategic partnerships. Tashkent International Airport is undergoing significant upgrades, including the expansion of cargo terminals and the introduction of advanced handling technologies. “Collaboration is key,” Abdurakhmanov emphasised. “We are working closely with government agencies, private investors, and international partners to create a robust logistics ecosystem that meets the demands of modern trade.” Uzbekistan’s free economic zones near major transport hubs are also playing a critical role in attracting foreign investment and facilitating multimodal solutions, further enhancing logistics capabilities.

Navigating challenges

While the opportunities are immense, the Central Asian market presents unique challenges, including regulatory complexities, infrastructure gaps, and competitive pressures. Abdurakhmanov acknowledged these hurdles but remained optimistic: “We view challenges as opportunities to innovate. By investing in technology and fostering collaboration, we are building a resilient and competitive operation.”

Efforts to harmonise customs procedures and improve cross-border coordination are critical to overcoming these challenges and ensuring seamless cargo movement across the region. Forward-looking approach As sustainability becomes a global imperative, My Freighter is prioritising eco-friendly practices and innovative technologies.

“We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint by integrating fuel-efficient aircraft, optimising flight operations, and exploring alternative energy solutions,” said Abdurakhmanov.

The company is also investing in digital transformation, including datadriven logistics platforms that enhance efficiency and transparency. These initiatives not only align with global environmental goals but also position My Freighter as a forward-thinking leader in the air cargo industry.
