World’s largest aircraft pays 21st visit to Leipzig

Leipzig/Halle Airport welcomed the world’s largest aircraft the Antonov 225 on 10 November, which was transporting around 160 tonnes to Chile.

This was the 21st visit for the An-225 to Leipzig and apart from its home base at Kiev Gostomel, there is no other European airport the aircraft it has visited more frequently.

PortGround, which specialises in ground handling operations, loaded the 160 tonnes of freight on board the Antonov 225 at Leipzig before it departed on 12 November – with a stop en route in Iceland.

Leipzig/Halle moved 988,240 tonnes of airfreight in 2015 and its Germany’s second-largest freight airport and fifth busiest in Europe.
