Volga-Dnepr transports 57 tonne generator to Kuwait for Siemens

Volga-Dnepr Airlines has delivered a 57 tonne generator to Kuwait for Siemens, putting its Cargo Supermarket to good use.

Faced with a critical delivery deadline to move the rotor from its manufacturing site in Mulheim, Germany, Siemens asked Volga-Dnepr’s logistics specialists to project manage the shipment to transport it onboard an Antonov AN-124-100 Freighter to ensure the 11-metre long cargo reached its destination on time.

Using the Cargo Supermarket, the airline’s solutions included organising cargo security screening of the shipment at Cologne Airport, crane hire to load the rotor onto the AN-124-100 and taking care of export documentation.

Volga-Dnepr arranged for a crane to be waiting in Kuwait to ensure a safe and timely unloading of the cargo, organised its transfer to the warehouse holding area at the airport, and made sure the crane was repositioned to load the rotor onto a truck for the final leg of its journey.

Volga-Dnepr head of logistics UK, Steve Downing says: “We have carried shipments for Siemens regularly over many years but there is no doubt that the development of our engineering and logistics services for very heavy, outsize and complex cargoes has reinforced our relationship because it has extended our capability to a total delivery solution when required.”
