Volga-Dnepr puts wing lift to good use to reduce loading times

Volga-Dnepr Airlines has put its new ‘wing lift’ system for reducing load times of large containers to good use by transporting two power generators to Port Harcourt in Nigeria.

The ‘wing lift’ system reduces loading times for large containers from four hours to less than 30 minutes, and was put to good use transporting a 19-tonnes gas-powered standby generator and a 17.6-tonne diesel generator from France to Nigeria.

The shipment, on behalf of GEODIS Industrial Projects UK was moved from Châlons Vatry Airport onboard an Ilyushin IL-76TD-90VD Freighter, with the generators housed in containers measuring 920x260x290cms.

Volga-Dnepr says the ‘wing lift’ system reduces the four-hour loading time for 20, 30 and 40-foot containers. Wheels are attached to each corner of the container, enabling loading systems to winch the container into the cargo hold safely with greatly reduced handling times.
