Volga-Dnepr helps DROMLAN Antarctica keep its cool

Volga-Dnepr Airlines has transported over 190 tonnes of cargo to Antarctica in its first season of flights to support the DROMLAN project.

It has completed 12 return flights using an Ilyushin IL-76TD-90VD since 4 November 2015, connecting Cape Town with the Novolazarevskaya Antarctic Research Station for the project, run by the Antarctic Logistics Centre International. Volga-Dnepr has delivered 125 tonnes of cargo to Antarctica and carried 64 tonnes from the continent.

Volga-Dnepr UK sales director, Georgy Sokolov says: “We have successfully completed our first series of IL-76TD-90VD flights to Antarctica. The next series of flights will start in November because of the polar night environment and difficult weather conditions.”
