The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has reportedly submitted plans to the Ministry of Transport to build three airports in the northwestern provinces.
Media reports in Vietnam say the total investment shed out will be 9.813 trillion Vietnamese Dong ($440 million), according to reports.
The move is likely to boost air cargo capacity and operations in the South East Asian country, which is one of the fastest growing airfreight markets in Asia.
The likes of Vietnam Airlines (pictured above) have grown in recent years, while the domestic air cargo market and aviation industry as a whole is one of the fastest growing in the world.
Also in Vietnam, the Ministry of Transport has sought government permission to allow Vietstar Airlines, a military-run aviation company, to start up passenger and air cargo services.
The carrier plans to operate routes linking the main destinations in Vietnam, as well as routes to major cities in South East Asia and East Asia over the first five years, once it acquires government approval.
It now provides charter flights, filming and rescue services and it has struck a deal to lease three Boeing 737 aircraft and one Airbus 320 to operate commercial services.
Vietnam has four commercial airlines in service – Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific, Vietjet Air and VASCO.
