Tonnage on the up at Stansted and East Midlands

London Stansted Airport and East Midlands Airport saw surges in cargo volumes in February according to operator of the gateways the Manchester Airports Group (MAG).

Stansted handled 19,041 tonnes, a rise of 9.4 per cent on the same month last year, as it was boosted by CargoLogicAir starting operations and on Valentine’s Day it saw strong strong growth demand for fresh roses direct from Kenya.

East Midlands Airport handled 25,026 tonnes of cargo in February, up 2.5 per cent on February 2015.

Up in the north, Manchester Airport, which predominately handled bellyhold cargo, saw a fall in cargo tonnage of 4.2 per cent in the month, handling 7,251 tonnes.
