Tonnage rise at Lyon in 2015

Cargo tonnage grew by four per cent at Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport in 2015 compared to the previous 12 months.

The gateway says it handled 51,629 tonnes last year, which included 2,816 tonnes of postal freight and 48,812 tonnes of air cargo.

Lyon-Saint Exupéry says mixed freight represented 8,108 tonnes, a 2.4 per cent increase, and freighters 4,109 tonnes, with a surge of 11 per cent.

Lyon-Saint Exupéry explains: “This increase was especially brought about by express freight, which recorded (+3,5%) with a market share of 75 per cent of airfreight (excluding postal).”

On the express side DHL saw a rise of 13 per cent over the course of the year and saw their second flight in a Boeing 757. They also became the primary integrator at Lyon-Saint Exupéry.

The airport says it transportation of horses remained active (273 horses transported), operated by a weekly cargo-only service by Emirates SkyCargo as well as four other chartered flights in 2015 (which transported 150 horses).
