Swissport awarded five-year cargo contract with Lufthansa group at Brussels and Liège airports

Swissport acquires Belgium Airport Services

Swissport and Lufthansa signed a 5-year contract for cargo handling at Brussels and Liège airports. The agreement covers Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines.
At the end of December 2019, Swissport and Lufthansa Cargo renewed their agreement regarding cargo handling at Brussels and Liège airports. The agreement includes warehousing and cargo ramp transport of mail, pharmaceuticals, valuables and general cargo for Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines. The contract is valid until the end of 2024.

For Swissport, the renewed agreement yields a substantial increase in tonnage handled at its cargo facility at Brussels airport, where it is currently completing a major expansion. Lufthansa’s renewed vote of confidence is based on a thorough selection process and the successful cooperation between Swissport and Lufthansa Cargo to date. Both partners endeavor to further jointly drive digitization to realize cost and process improvement.

“We are pleased to anchor the cargo handling business for Lufthansa Cargo at Brussels Airport and look forward to further growing our cooperation across our global network” says Rudolf Steiner, Swissport’s senior vice president cargo for EMEA.

In October 2019, Swissport opened its brand new and dedicated Pharma Center at Brussels Airports. The facility boasts 3,620 sq m of temperature controlled, state-of-the-art warehousing space. Swissport‘s existing 25,000 sq m warehouse is also undergoing a refurbished from the ground up. Additionally, a new four-story office building is being constructed. Once completed, it will provide attractive office space for Swissport and its cargo customers.

Swissport Belgium, with a workforce of some 2,000 employees, handles more than 550,000 tonnes of air cargo per year.
