Record cargo volumes for Luxembourg Airport

Luxembourg Airport posted its best results ever in 2018, with pharmaceuticals and live animals pushing up cargo volumes 2% compared to 2017.

A total of 957,000 tonnes was handled by LuxairCARGO in 2018, with pharma increasing 22% to 36,830 tonnes, 2,524 horses passing through, up 58% and imports rising by 5% representing a surplus of 21,800 tonnes.

The imbalance between inbound and outbound cargo of previous years was reduced to a more or less balanced level.

In order to cope with the growing demand, four additional widebody handling positions were added in November 2018, increasing ramp handling capacity by 50%.

Aircraft rotations increased by 6% to 6,675 turnarounds, of which, the latest generation freighters such as Boeing 777Fs and 747-8Fs increased by 10%.

LuxairCARGO also welcomed new customers in 2018, with China Southern Airlines starting a weekly rotation to Shanghai Pudong in October 2018.
