Noida International Airport paves way for 2025 opening

Noida International Airport (NIA) has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of its validation flight, marking a major step toward its anticipated opening in 2025. The validation flight, conducted by IndiGo as the launch carrier, tested and verified the airport’s approach procedures, navigational aids, and air traffic control systems, showcasing NIA’s adherence to the stringent safety and operational standards required for commercial operations.

The validation flight is a vital component of the aerodrome licensing process. The Airbus A-320 flight tested the Required Navigation Performance (RNP) and Instrument Landing System (ILS) approach procedures, critical for ensuring safe and efficient aircraft operations. RNP procedures enable aircraft to fly precise flight paths with high accuracy, enhancing the safety and reliability of navigation.

This achievement follows months of rigorous preparations, including the successful calibration of NIA’s Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) systems in October. The Airports Authority of India (AAI), in collaboration with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), oversaw these trials. Simulator trials of the RNP procedures further reinforced the airport’s readiness, ensuring that NIA meets the highest safety standards.

Speaking about the milestone, Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport, remarked, “The successful completion of validation flights at Noida International Airport is a proud moment for our entire team. This milestone reflects the dedication and meticulous planning that has gone into ensuring the airport is ready for commercial operations. We are gearing up for the airport’s opening and look forward to welcoming passengers to the airport.”

With the validation flight successfully completed, the next phase involves finalising the required documentation for aerodrome certification. This documentation will be submitted to the DGCA, marking the final step before commercial operations can commence. The airport’s adherence to safety protocols during this process will be critical in securing the necessary approvals.

As Schnellmann aptly summarised, “This milestone is just the beginning. We are committed to creating an airport that sets new standards for operational excellence and passenger experience in India.”
