Munich Airport’s airfreight rises 5.4% in 2016

Munich Airport’s airfreight volumes saw strong growth in 2016 rising by 5.4 per cent to 334,497 tonnes.

Airfreight volumes were up from 317,387 tonnes in 2015, while airfreight and airmail rose by 5.2 per cent to 353,650 tonnes.

Aircraft movements increase by 3.8 per cent to 394,430 and Munich Airport president and chief executive officer, Dr Michael Kerkloh says: “The strong gains in our traffic figures clearly demonstrate once again that growth in demand for mobility is steadily rising. This will continue in the coming year. Based on slot requests submitted by the airlines to date, we expect a 4 per cent increase in aircraft movements in 2017.”

Munich’s network expanded with 10 more destinations and the number of airlines offering scheduled services increasing by three to 100.
