Lufthansa sends roses for Valentine’s Day

Lufthansa Cargo will be transporting over 1,500 tonnes of flowers for lovers for Valentine’s Day, enough to fill 16 Boeing MD-11 Freighters.

The German airline has added special charter flights from Ecuador’s capital, Quito, and the capital of Kenya, Nairobi, to Lufthansa’s main hub, Frankfurt. It used its Fresh/td product to keep the perishable flowers fresh for the big day.

Lufthansa says the roses are grown in Kenya and South America, where they are harvested and placed in water and cooled. After sorting and packing the flowers, they are sent to the airport where they are loaded into cooled cargo holds of the freighter aircraft.
