Liege Airport sees 10% volume surge

Torsten Wefers joins Liege Airport

Liege Airport has seen cargo volumes increase by 10 per cent to 649,829 tonnes in 2015, up from 590,579 tonnes in 2014.

Liege Airport general manager, Luc Partoune says: “The new airlines – Qatar Airways and ANA Aviation – have boosted our activities. And TNT has also shown very strong growth. CAL, El Al and Icelandair are also on the up.”

The airport has been expanding its facilities, through its Liege Airport Business Park subsidiary, an office building in the Northern zone and is expected to be fully occupied by early February. It will spend another six million euros ($6.5 million) expanding Liege Airport Business Park with a new freight hall in the Northern zone and storage facilities.

The building acting as a reception centre for horses will be operational by early June and will be ready for the Olympic Games in Rio.

Liege will also be spending 10 million euros on investments including a new business aviation area, creating more aircraft stands and energy saving projects.
