Key trade lanes drive growth at Hong Kong in July

Cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) in July rose year-on-year (YOY) by 4.7 per cent to 380,000 tonnes – driven by growth in key trade lanes.

The gateway says a robust 15 per cent YOY growth in transshipments led to respectable growth in cargo volume last month and traffic to and from the key trading regions in North America, mainland China and Southeast Asia, which rose most significantly in the month compared to July 2015.

For the first seven months of the year, HKIA handled 2.46 million tonnes of cargo during the period, which remained flat compared to the same period last year.

On a rolling 12-month basis, freight handled in the past 12 months at HKIA remained stable at 4.38 million tonnes.
