IBS Software and Singapore Airlines Co-Develop Shipment Record Solution

IBS Software and Singapore Airlines Co-Develop Shipment Record Solution

Singapore Airlines is collaborating with IBS Software to co-develop a shipment record solution. This will make substantial strides in digitally transforming air cargo operations and advancing towards IATA’s ONE Record standards through the digitisation of shipment records and usage of technology.

The initial phase of this ambitious project, conducted in collaboration with Cargo Community Network (CCN), has been successfully completed. This phase involved the creation and sharing of shipment records across airlines, cargo community system providers, and ground handling agents on the ONE Record platform. CCN’s open data collaboration platform, CUBEforall, plays a crucial role by enhancing data exchange and transparency while seamlessly integrating legacy systems with ONE Record standards. This achievement was showcased during the IATA ONE Record roadshow in Singapore on July 23, 2024.

Transforming Air Cargo Operations

Shipment records are essential documents in air cargo operations, underpinning all key processes in sales, planning, and execution for various stakeholders. Traditionally, a single shipment results in multiple copies of shipment records, leading to inefficiencies and the cumbersome handling of physical documents. The digitisation of shipment records through the ONE Record initiative addresses these challenges by enabling a single source of truth for shipment data. This not only enhances operational efficiencies but also extends the utility of data beyond the physical lifecycle of shipments.

The implementation of digital shipment records will allow Singapore Airlines to achieve greater transparency and visibility across reporting, revenue accounting, and future planning for all stakeholders involved. From airline to shipper, the enhanced accessibility of shipment data provided by IBS Software will benefit all partners within the air cargo supply chain.

A Vision for the Future

Digital shipment records are a cornerstone of the future of digital cargo. They offer a solution to address the issues posed by incompatible legacy systems, data duplication, and reduced data integrity. The successful implementation of the shipment record based on ONE Record standards sets the stage for Singapore Airlines to develop more innovative use cases, further enhancing operational efficiencies.

Ashok Rajan, Head of Cargo and Logistics Solutions at IBS Software, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “Partnering with Singapore Airlines, a globally recognised leader in aviation innovation, to drive the digital future of air cargo is a significant objective for IBS Software. In today’s cargo industry, data accessibility and transparency are paramount. Data and digitalisation are key enablers for the development of solutions that allow cargo carriers to grow and meet their customers’ evolving needs. We are proud to have the support of an industry pioneer like Singapore Airlines in enhancing accessibility and excellence in the digitalisation of air cargo.”

Marvin Tan, Senior Vice President Cargo at Singapore Airlines, highlighted the airline’s commitment to innovation, “At Singapore Airlines, we continuously invest and innovate in all aspects of the business. By co-developing a digital shipment record solution with IBS Software, we remain committed to meeting IATA’s ONE Record’s goal for enhanced data visibility for all our stakeholders. This collaboration positions both organisations at the forefront of cargo digitalisation, as we unlock new efficiencies and business opportunities and respond to the evolving needs of the industry.”

The collaboration between Singapore Airlines and IBS Software is a significant step towards the future of air cargo. By digitising shipment records and enhancing data transparency and accessibility, the partnership sets a new standard for efficiency and innovation in the industry. As Singapore Airlines and IBS Software continue to pioneer in this space, the air cargo industry can look forward to a more streamlined, efficient, and data-driven future.
