Frankfurt-Hahn to be sold to China’s HNA Group

Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is to be sold to the HNA Airport Group of China, the majority stakeholder Germany’s Rheinland-Pfalz state has confirmed.

There will be a press conference and signing ceremony today. Rheinland-Pfalz state holds an 82.5 per cent stake in the airport, which it has had up for sale for a while.

Frankfurt-Hahn once handled more than 150,000 tonnes as recently as 2013, but in 2015 the figure fell to 79,000 tonnes and last year it was set to fall further and a new direction is needed to boost figures.
