FRA boosts cargo volumes in May

Some 5.6 million passengers travelled via Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in May 2025, representing an increase of 1.8 percent compared to the same month last year.

Cargo volumes (comprising airfreight and airmail) at FRA grew by 4.4 percent year-on-year to 178,977 metric tons in the reporting month. Aircraft movements climbed by 5.7 percent to 42,255 takeoffs and landings, while accumulated maximum takeoff weights (or MTOWs) rose by 4.4 percent, reaching around 2.6 million metric tons in May.

Fraport’s Group airports worldwide also recorded rising passenger numbers for May 2025. At Ljubljana Airport (LJU), traffic surged by 13.5 percent compared to May last year, with 151,849 passengers using the Slovenian gateway. In Brazil, the two airports of Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA) welcomed 1.1 million passengers in May, a year-on-year increase of 132.3 percent. The significant increase was primarily due to the non-recurring effect from POA’s closure last year following severe flooding. Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru recorded approximately 2.2 million passengers in May 2025, up 6.3 percent from the previous year.

Traffic at the 14 Greek regional airports edged up by 1.0 percent to a total of 3.7 million passengers. The two coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) in Bulgaria saw traffic grow noticeably by 24.1 percent to 222,806 travelers overall. On the Turkish Riviera, traffic at Antalya Airport (AYT) remained stable at around 3.9 million passengers, with no change on the previous year.

The total number of passengers at all airports actively managed by the Fraport Group grew by 6.0 percent year-on-year to around 16.8 million in May 2025.
