Etihad Cargo brings FIA World Rallycross to Abu Dhabi

Etihad Cargo delivered all 17 rally cars and 200 cubic metres of spare parts for the region’s first ever ‘festival of racing’ FIA World Rallycross of Abu Dhabi.

A chartered Boeing 777 Freighter flew the WRX rally cars from Liege, Belgium where the cars had travelled to from all over Europe, to Abu Dhabi.

The Urban Festival will be held at the Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island, and the three-day event includes two support races: Yas Super Street Challenge – Drag Racing, and the Monster Energy Emirates Drift Championship, before the inaugural FIA World Rallycross of Abu Dhabi 2019.

Bader Al Ali, business development manager at Etihad Cargo says the airline is “immensely proud” to be part of the event, which has come to Abu Dhabi for the first time thanks to partners at Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management and Yas Marina Circuit.

He says: “This is the perfect way to celebrate FlightValet, which we launched last year in response to growing demand as our experience and reputation for care, professionalism and ease of use has become more widely known.”

Steve Hall, director of sponsorship at the Yas Marina Circuit says this will be one of its largest public events, adding: “This type of event couldn’t happen without world-class logistics support, and for this reason we are delighted to be working alongside Etihad Cargo on this flagship project, continuing a longstanding association with one of our key partners.”
