Emirates has ordered two additional Airbus A380s to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2017, taking its orders for the aircraft to 142.

The airline has 75 A380s in operation and firm orders for another 65, and the newest aircraft on order will be powered by Rolls Royce Trent 900 engines.

Emirates Airline president, Sir Tim Clark says: “From now until the end of 2017, Emirates will retire 30 older aircraft from our fleet. At the same time, to meet our growth expectations, we will receive delivery of 24 new Boeing 777, and 33 new A380 aircraft including these two additional A380 aircraft just ordered.”

Clark says Emirates has been very happy with the A380, as it has greatly benefitted operations, particularly at airports with limited slots. It will soon start using A380s in Prague, Vienna and Taipei.
