Emirates 777 crash-lands at Dubai, but no casualties

An Emirates aircraft flying from India has crash-landed at 12.45pm local time at Dubai International Airport because of an equipment failure.

All the 282 passengers and 18 crew on-board were safely evacuated from the Boeing 777-300 passenger aircraft which was carrying out an emergency landing. The 777 carries a significant payload of cargo.

Images on social media outlets such as Twitter show plumes of black smoke rising into the air from the aircraft.

A statement from Emirates reads: “Emirates can confirm that today 3rd August 2016, flight EK521 travelling from Trivandrum International Airport in Thiruvananthapuram, India to Dubai has been involved in an accident at Dubai International Airport. There were 275 passengers on board.”

The Twitter feed for the Government of Dubai said at 1.50pm local time that all departure flights from Dubai have been delayed until further notice.
