DHL strengthens Indian stance

DHL Express, the cargo arm of leading global logistics solution DHL, has committed to grow its presence in India with fast-paced operations as the company inaugurated its New City Side Auto Sorting Facility at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

The state-of-the-art facility has an import sorting facility with an accuracy rate of 99.8% due to the implementation of an advanced IT system for efficient data movement.

With 56 sorting positions for packages and 18 bag and box sorting conveyors, service quality has increased by 5% in the express shipping facility.

The box sorting facility adds a processing capacity of 2,000 pieces per hour with packages ranging from 500 grams to 50 kilogrammes.

The newly inaugurated facility has been built with a €6 million investment and is equipped with automated and ultramodern sorters, scanners, and cargo handling units.

DHL has a long-range forecast for the next five years with investments worth €200 million being infused in building and strengthening more facilities and access points across India.

Speaking at the facility launch, R.S. Subramanian, SVP South Asia, DHL Express, stated: “The implementation of new technology has allowed DHL to clear the shipments on high priority with quicker response rate, thus making the supply chain faster and more efficient.”

Adding further to the technological advancement to harness greater productivity in express shipping, Subramanian highlighted how the latest research and developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning would boost the potential of the express cargo domain and productivity, something DHL will replicate at other hubs and facilities.

“The DHL Ideology is a trifactor of Shipment 33%, Data 33% and Customer Satisfaction 33%; thus, valuing customers is one of the strongest pillars for the growth of DHL moving forward. The Advance Quality Control Centre (AQCC) is a boon to understand the shipment sentiment, thus ensuring safety not only for the employees but for the shipment too.”

Expanding on the investment for this city side sorting facility, Subramanian asserted that “DHL is committed to its growth in the Indian market and has permanent expansion plans with facility, fleet or technology. Plans for further expansions of such facilities across India are on the horizon, as this facility has boosted DHL’s confidence.”
