DHL Freight opens Hanover airport hub

DHL Freight has opened a hub at the Airport Business Park in Langenhagen, handling all-in-one groupage “Euroconnect” and “Eurapid” day-definite services.

The terminal at Hanover airport employs 290 people and DHL is also trialling technologies at the transhipment facility.

It houses 86 loading bays and the team of employees includes experts to assist national and international customers with customised solutions and transport management for the “Euronet” full truck load service.

New technologies being tested include an electric manoeuvring assistant using augmented reality and automated steering to independently manoeuvre and swap bodies.

Automated weight, volume and shipment data recording devices are being tested so data can be transferred to the transport management system within seconds.

Uwe Brinks, CEO of DHL Freight says: “The opening of the new Hanover-Langenhagen freight terminal adds another important hub in European overland transport. The combination of a convenient location and innovative technologies makes this new future-oriented freight transhipment centre an important growth driver within our network.”
