DHL combines services at Vienna Airport campus

DHL has opened its new campus at Vienna Airport, combining overland, air and ocean freight services for optimal handling and transportation of goods.

The Vienna Airport hub in the county of Fischamend adds another important logistics hub and gateway to the DHL Global Forwarding, Freight worldwide network, opening up Austria and Eastern Europe.

Prominent guests at the opening ceremony included Johanna Mikl-Leitner, governor of the state of Lower Austria; Thomas Ram, mayor of Fischamend; and Günther Ofner, CEO of Vienna Airport.

Tim Scharwath, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding, Freight says: “The new DHL campus at the Vienna Airport adds another important logistics hub to our global transportation network, which we use to service over 220 countries and territories.”

Previously, DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Freight conducted business from three separate locations around Austria, which have now been consolidated at the new campus.

Along with 3,500 sq m of office space, DHL’s Vienna Airport campus includes two freight terminals, each measuring 12,000 sq m, consisting of roughly 5,000 sq m for DHL Global Forwarding warehousing and handling as well as 7,000 sq m for DHL Freight.

DHL has added capacity for temperature-controlled goods, with DHL Global Forwarding dedicating over 1,200 sq m to the products.

Uwe Brinks, CEO of DHL Freight says: “Our longer-term goal is to be the market and quality leader in European overland transport, which is why we continue to invest in the expansion and further development of our transport and groupage network.”
