The cool chain has undergone a significant evolution, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic challenges had been presented. The cold chain was already crucial for industries such as pharmaceuticals and food. But the pandemic ultimately highlighted its vulnerabilities and accelerated innovations in temperature-sensitive logistics.
In recent years, the industry has seen a tremendous surge in demand for temperature-sensitive services, especially in the last two and a half years. This includes a notable boost in the need for temperature monitoring solutions like data loggers and temperature indicators.
The cold chain is becoming more transparent and regulated — not just in the United States, but in other countries as well. The sector is starting to see patient involvement as more prescriptions and diagnostics are delivered straight to patients’ homes.
It is believed that with simple and transparent solutions, pharmaceutical companies, distributors and providers will be able to reduce costs, increase the safety of the items transported, and generate trust with transparency.
“Digital advancements have greatly improved visibility within the cold chain, providing customers with real-time reassurance about their cargo conditions. Real-time analytics and tracking have become essential tools, enabling efficient monitoring of temperature and other critical parameters,” Billy Sanez, Global Marketing Director at SpotSee, stated.
“Our digital solutions integrate through application programming interfaces (APIs) to our customers’ systems. We also provide easily downloadable and merged files to develop reports or create full analyses.
Four solutions
SpotBot GL leverages global cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity to deliver comprehensive insights, including temperature, humidity, shock and location data. This level of visibility allows customers to track their shipments in real-time and address any temperature excursions immediately, offering them the confidence and control they need at every stage of the journey. All are easily accessible, either in the SpotSee cloud or connected to a customer’s system.
FreezeSafe is a descending-temperature sensor. It is most commonly used for products that may not freeze or go below -2 °C. This irreversible indicator is adhered to the product monitored and produces clear evidence that a shipment has reached the low-temperature threshold monitored.
MaxiLog PDF is the standard in PDF data loggers. It’s used across a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, food and chemicals. This sensor provides customers with both a PDF and spreadsheet of the data tracked along a journey. It’s one of the most accurate and cost-effective ways for a customer to ensure compliance and transparency.
ColdChain Complete is a cost-effective solution designed to monitor temperature-sensitive products effectively. Its single-use visual indicators provide accurate and irreversible evidence of temperature excursions, empowering customers to monitor both cold and hot temperature variations. It monitors ascending temperature over time as well as descending temperature.
“Over the years, we’ve become a reliable partner to our pharmaceutical clients. Our products and solutions help them identify issues in the cold chain, allowing pharmaceutical companies to pinpoint where damage had occurred and then continue to monitor for any potential issues,” Sanez explained.
“In addition, we’ve provided solutions that help manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers comply with local, state and federal regulations.”
