Carousel Logistics has opened a new airside facility at Birmingham Airport to consolidate its cargo handling operations.
The cargo hub triples Carousel’s previous handling capability and is projected to reduce up to 50,000 miles of road transport per year.
“Our new facility at Birmingham Airport will allow us to handle even greater volumes of cargo within the same tight time window,” said Andrew Lowery, UK Managing Director, Carousel Logistics.
“Strategically located near the M42 and M6 motorways, Birmingham International station, new HS2 links, and our electric rail freight partner Varamis Rail, this investment will dramatically improve line haul times and cut carbon emissions.”

Cargo unloaded at Birmingham Airport was previously sent to Carousel’s site in Coventry before making its onward journey.
Opening this new facility removes this unnecessary step, with goods now sorted and shipped directly from the airport to their final destination.
The in-night logistics specialist has also invested in new lower-emissions equipment at Birmingham Airport as part of its long-term sustainability strategy, with forklifts and belt loaders now electrically powered, ground power units running on HVO biofuel, instead of diesel, and a new fleet of electric vans.
