Boost to India’s cold chain infrastructure unveiled

Telangana’s Minister of Industries and Commerce, Duddilla Sridhar Babu has inaugurated CSafe’s new facility in Hyderabad on the sidelines of the Cold Chain Unbroken conference. The new 15,000 sq ft distribution and operations warehouse represents CSafe’s sixth facility in India and is poised to strengthen cold chain capacity across the region.

CSafe is renowned for its thermal shipping solutions catering to the pharmaceutical industry’s cold chain shipping requirements worldwide. Their offerings include an extensive portfolio of products, such as active and passive bulk air cargo containers, parcel solutions, cell and gene therapies, and specialty last-mile delivery options.

The new facility, situated just 10 kilometers from Hyderabad International Airport, will cater to the growing demand for passive containers and thermal blankets from customers in Hyderabad and the broader Asia-Pacific region. This facility is strategically positioned to tap into Hyderabad’s expanding pharmaceutical market and support the broader logistical needs of India’s fast-growing biopharma sector.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Sridhar Babu highlighted the importance of cold chain infrastructure for Telangana’s industry. “Cold chain capacity and cold storage facilities are critical for Telangana’s economic growth. We are pleased with CSafe’s decision to establish a facility in Hyderabad, but we are also discussing the potential for expanding this into a full-fledged production facility,” the Minister stated.

Hyderabad has emerged as a vital hub for the pharmaceutical industry, with the city hosting several leading pharma companies and biopharma startups. Dharmesh Chauhan, Vice President of Global Sales – Passive Solutions at CSafe, remarked: “The facility will primarily serve the passive container and thermal blanket needs of our customers in Hyderabad. The business here has become substantial, and customers have been demanding a dedicated facility for a long time.”

With production facilities already established in Mumbai and Pune, and expansion plans for Ahmedabad and Bangalore, CSafe is setting itself up as a critical player in India’s cold chain sector. “We have plans to expand the new Hyderabad facility and introduce production capabilities, along with active container repair services,” Tom Weir, Chief Operating Officer at CSafe, shared.
