This award, the first of its kind from Lufthansa Group and a debut win for Aviator, recognises the company’s leading-edge sustainability practices in aviation services.

“Since our operations started in May 2023, 100% of Lufthansa Group turnarounds at Arlanda have been CO2 neutral, powered entirely by renewable energy. With 65% of our Ground Support Equipment (GSE) fleet electrified, we’re cutting down emissions and improving the workplace by reducing noise and pollutants,” stated Jonas Brundin, Managing Director in Sweden at Aviator Airport Alliance.

Uwe Teichmann, Station Manager in Arlanda at Lufthansa Group, praised Aviator’s efforts, saying, “Aviator’s forward-thinking in sustainable aviation services, notably their early adoption of electric ground handling equipment and continuous fleet optimisation, embodies our shared goals for a more sustainable aviation future.”

Aviator’s sustainability efforts are at the forefront of its service provision. Key initiatives include investing in the first fully electric high loader in 2009, introducing the Kalmar TBL100 electric, and acquiring the first serial-produced fully electric Mulag ULD-transporter in 2018. With these steps, plus transitioning the remaining diesel equipment to HVO100 biofuel, Aviator aims to reach 100% CO2 neutrality in Sweden by 2025.

Aviator Airport Alliance’s partnership with Lufthansa Group extends beyond Arlanda, with ongoing contracts in Gothenburg since December 2020 and Copenhagen since 2019. The Arlanda station currently manages around 110 weekly turns for the Lufthansa Group, employing many electrified GSEs. The company’s proactive approach to sustainability has positioned it as a leader in environmental stewardship within the aviation services sector.

Aviator Airport Alliance is part of Avia Solutions Group, the world’s largest ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance) provider. The group operates a fleet of 199 passenger and cargo aircraft worldwide and provides various aviation services such as MRO, pilot and crew training, ground handling, and other interconnected solutions.
