- Astral Aviation has operated its inaugural flight between Haikou, China and Johannesburg, South Africa, using its Boeing 767-300 Freighter.
- The new service marks a significant milestone in strengthening trade and connectivity between China and Africa.
The Haikou–Johannesburg route will provide a vital air bridge for the fast-growing demand in e-commerce, electronics, textiles, and general cargo, while supporting Africa’s exports of perishables and raw materials to China. With the establishment of this direct service, Astral Aviation reinforces its role as a trusted African carrier dedicated to enhancing bilateral trade flows.
The China–Africa trade corridor is one of the fastest expanding in the world, with China being Africa’s largest trading partner. The introduction of this freighter service will not only provide efficiency and reliability for manufacturers, traders, and logistics providers but will also deepen economic ties by creating new opportunities for businesses across both continents.
Operating out of Haikou, the capital of Hainan Province and China’s free trade port, Astral Aviation is strategically positioned to serve the growing demand for direct and seamless connectivity to Africa. Johannesburg, as Africa’s leading cargo hub, will serve as the gateway for distribution across Southern, Eastern, and Central Africa.
Sanjeev Gadhia, CEO of Astral Aviation, commented: “The launch of the Haikou–Johannesburg service represents more than just a new route — it is a bridge between China and Africa that will facilitate trade, investment, and economic growth. We are proud to play a role in unlocking the immense potential of this corridor.”
