Air Partner has launched its ‘Rio Express’ freight service to operate weekly flights from Frankfurt to Rio de Janeiro before and after the Rio Olympics Games.
The Rio Express will use a Boeing MD-11 Freighter for flights from Frankfurt Airport to Rio de Janeiro – Galeão International Airport on Sundays starting 10 July and ending 24 July, with return flights will operate on 25, 26 and 27 August. The flights will arrive at 00.05h on Monday, and all cargo will be transported in containers to ensure faster handling on arrival.
Air Partner director of freight, Mike Hill says: “This is the second time that we have operated this type of service – following on from the success of the ‘Sochi Express’ at the 2014 Winter Olympics – and we expect it to be just as popular with clients this time around.”
“We know that not all our freight forwarder clients will have enough cargo to warrant a full charter, and this service will enable them to transport smaller amounts in a cost-effective way.”
Air Partner is one of a few freight operators to secure cargo slots at Galeão, with other freighters flying into Viracopos International Airport, which is three hours further away from the Olympic venue by truck.
