ACI Europe: Europe continues recovery in February

Airports in Europe saw freight volumes grow by 2.9 per cent in February as they continue to recover from weakness in 2015, Airports Council International (ACI) Europe says.

Freight volumes in February are 6.4 per cent higher than the same month of 2014 and are 11.2 per cent above 2013. For January and February, freight volumes are 3.3 per cent higher than 2015 and five per cent above 2014.

Freight figures at Europe’s top airports were mixed in February, with Frankfurt Airport seeing a 2.1 per cent fall to 150,623 tonnes, while neither of the Paris airports, Charles de Gaulle or Orly provided information. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol saw a 2.5 per cent drop to 122,829 tonnes and Heathrow Airport was up 2.7 per cent to 121,424 tonnes.

So far this year, Frankfurt Airport has seen freight dip by 1.2 per cent to 299,959 tonnes and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was up by one per cent to 248,808 tonnes. Heathrow Airport saw freight increase by 2.8 per cent to 240,638 tonnes and was followed by Cologne Bonn Airport, which was up by 0.5 per cent to 115,948 tonnes.
