Çelebi Aviation launches new AI to spot apron safety risks in under 60 seconds

  • Çelebi Aviation unveils “CompliAI,” an AI-powered safety compliance system transforming real-time apron monitoring and risk prevention.
  • Successful pilot at Budapest Liszt Feren International Airport demonstrated sub-60-second incident detection and improved near-miss reporting.
  • Global rollout planned across Çelebi’s network, expanding data-driven oversight and automation to enhance ground handling safety worldwide.

Çelebi Aviation, a global leader in ground handling and cargo operations across three continents, announces the launch of its pioneering AI-Supported Occupational Health and Safety Compliance System, a cutting-edge solution designed to significantly elevate apron safety standards, reduce risks, and enhance operational efficiency.

Developed jointly by Çelebi Aviation’s Global Quality and IT teams, the innovative system harnesses AI and GPS-based data analytics to enable real-time monitoring and proactive management of safety compliance. The solution, known internally as CompliAI, was successfully piloted at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, where it demonstrated measurable improvements in safety performance and responsiveness.

Transforming Apron Safety through AI Innovation

CompliAI integrates a network of cameras and sensors across ground handling areas to automatically detect and evaluate compliance with key safety standards, such as equipment distance rules, vehicle movements, and marshalling procedures. By supplementing, the system ensures continuous oversight and delivers instant alerts when potential risks or non-compliances are detected.

The system is designed to provide near-instant feedback to operations teams, enabling rapid corrective action and significantly strengthening Çelebi’s safety culture. During the Budapest pilot, incidents were identified and reported in under 60 seconds, while near-miss reporting increased substantially, contributing to a more proactive and data-driven approach to safety management.

Global Rollout Underway

Building on the success of the pilot project, Çelebi Aviation is now preparing for a global rollout of CompliAI across its other stations. The next phase of development will expand the system’s capabilities to include ground handling SLA measurements, along with additional operational metrics and equipment categories. This phase will be supported by a centralised rules library and dedicated on-site implementation teams.

“This project underscores Çelebi Aviation’s commitment to innovation, safety, and operational excellence,” said Dave Dorner, Group CEO of Çelebi Aviation. “By analysing real-time data, we’re able to identify risks more quickly, implement preventive measures more effectively, and protect our employees and customers like never before. This is not just an investment in technology but in the future of our industry.”

With the introduction of CompliAI, Çelebi Aviation sets a new benchmark for apron safety and digital transformation in ground handling, reinforcing its position as an industry leader in the adoption of advanced technologies that enhance safety, performance, and sustainability.
