Two of the world’s leading cargo-focused airports, Liege Airport (LGG) in Belgium and Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) in the United States, have signed a sister airport agreement during air cargo Southeast Asia 2025 in Singapore, marking a new milestone in transatlantic airfreight cooperation.

The agreement establishes a formal framework for strategic collaboration between the two hubs, focusing on increasing freighter traffic, launching joint marketing initiatives, and developing shared operational and digital innovations to streamline cargo processes.

“This agreement is a testament to our shared vision for the future of air cargo,” said Torsten Wefers, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Liege Airport. “Together with Chicago Rockford International Airport, we are building a robust transatlantic corridor that will benefit shippers, carriers, and the global supply chain.”

Zachary Oakley, Executive Director of Chicago Rockford International Airport, added: “Liege and Rockford are both cargo-centric airports with complementary strengths. This partnership formalises our collaboration and sets the stage for exciting new opportunities.”
