Aeroflot volumes fall 7% in 2015

Aeroflot has seen cargo and mail volumes fall by seven per cent in 2015 to 135,145 tonnes, though December only saw a modest drop of 2.5 per cent.

In 2015, the Russian airline saw international volumes fall by 8.5 per cent to 74,619 tonnes while domestic cargo and mail was down by 5.1 per cent to 63,770 tonnes. In December, volumes fell by 2.5 per cent to 14,079 tonnes, with international cargo and mail declining by 11.6 per cent to 7,089 tonnes, though domestic increased by 8.7 per cent to 6,990 tonnes.

For the Group as a whole, cargo and mail fell by six per cent to 156,335 tonnes in 2015, with international volumes falling by 77,154 tonnes and domestic down by 3.4 per cent to 79,180 tonnes. In December, Group cargo and mail fell by 1.3 per cent to 16,466 tonnes, with international volumes down 11 per cent to 7,323 tonnes and domestic up 8.2 per cent to 9,123 tonnes.

Aeroflot increased its fleet size by 12 aircraft in 2015, with eight Boeing 737-800s, eight Sukhoi Superjet 100s and three Boeing 777-300ERs. In 2015, five Ilyushin IL-96s and two Airbus A319s were retired. The Group fleet increased by eight aircraft in 2015, with the addition of 13 737-800s, three A319s, eight SSJ100s and three 777-300ERs. Nine 737-800s, one Airbus A320, two A319s and two Boeing 767s were retired from the Aeroflot Group fleet.

So far this year, Aeroflot has added two SSJ-100s to its fleet under a financial lease agreement from Sberbank Leasing. The aircraft, registration RA-89057 is named after Russian pilot, K Sapelkin, and RA-89058 after fellow pilot, N Safronnikov.
