The 2025 World Cargo Symposium (WCS) is set to open its doors in Dubai on 15th April, offering three days of discussions and meetings, as well as how the industry can adapt to geopolitical shifts, technological advancements and evolving demands.
“WCS is the premier air cargo event, held annually,” Brendan Sullivan, Global Head of Cargo at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), stated. “The event will bring together airlines, ground handlers, freight forwarders, airports, and solution providers. Essentially, the entire air cargo supply chain will be represented.
“The exhibition centre will be full of booths, offering attendees opportunities to network with industry leaders and decision-makers, ask questions, and stay up to date with the latest trends in air cargo.”
Industry outlook
Air cargo demonstrated incredible resilience in 2024, and in 2025, that strength will need to be maintained.
Key priorities that will be discussed at WCS are set to include the rise of e-commerce, which now represents up to 20 percent of the air cargo business.
Digitalisation will also be a focus, especially the implementation of One Record, and how the industry can move to real-world implementation and scale.
Additionally, there will be spotlight sessions on pharmaceuticals, data, innovation, and operations, which will delve into how these sectors impact air cargo transport.
“The world is changing quickly, with geopolitical risks, technological advancements, and evolving customer needs,” Sullivan expressed.
“WCS provides a chance to take stock, reflect on the direction air cargo is heading, and ensure we’re staying on course despite these uncertainties. It’s essential to focus on the future and adapt to the challenges ahead.”
Opportunity to connect
Collaboration across the supply chain is crucial, with the event proving a vital place for gathering industry leaders to share their challenges, achievements, and insights.
“By connecting and engaging, we gain firsthand knowledge of the industry’s priorities, opportunities, and what needs to be done moving forward. This helps drive the progress we need,” Sullivan stated.
“WCS offers something for everyone across the air cargo supply chain. It’s an excellent opportunity to network, showcase your work, and engage with the industry’s leaders.”
