Bridging Canada and Europe

Bridging Canada and Europe

Over the last 12 months, the North American-European market has seen positive developments. Although the first quarter saw some normalisation in the yield curve, volumes have since increased, and yields have stabilised, signalling a favourable trend. Looking ahead, the outlook for the remainder of the year is promising, with demand in European markets showing strong and sustained growth for North American carriers.

“This year’s market capacity increases over the Atlantic on some of the key trunk lanes and has certainly made for a challenging landscape, but with a strong network and our freighter connectivity into attractive and robust routes in the Americas, our focus was to look beyond the typical point-to-point markets,” Matthieu Casey, Managing Director, Commercial – Cargo at Air Canada Cargo, stated.

“This strategy is certainly beneficial to our customers, as our connectivity into key routes in the Americas provides great service and opportunities from as many as 25 European origins.”

Progressing plans

Air Canada Cargo’s service into Europe has seen a steady pattern of growth over the past year, with up to 30 percent more capacity from key markets like the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Italy and Spain, to name a few, as well as new markets such as Sweden which started this summer.

The carrier’s freighter service has been deployed seasonally on some high-demand European markets where capacity is constrained seasonally.

“Our belly capacity and freighter network are incredibly complementary, and the overall success of this combined network is testament to a carefully and strategically thought out network plan that is now benefitting our customers tremendously,” Casey highlighted.

“Our service and connecting markets are well understood and as much as possible, it’s important to have our partners and customers stay focused on the fact that Air Canada is much more than just Canada,” he added.

“We connect 750 city pairs with widebody and freighter service between Europe and the Americas, including South and Central America, the Caribbean and North America.”
