El Al orders nine Boeing 787 Dreamliners

El Al Israel Airlines has ordered up to nine Boeing 787 Dreamliners, worth $2.2 billion, and will lease an additional six 787s from leasing companies.

Boeing says three of the orders are firm while the others are subject to contractual requirements being finalised. The manufacturer says the 787 uses 20 per cent less fuel and emits 20 per cent fewer emissions than aircraft it replaces.

El Al president and chief executive officer (CEO), David Maimon says: “Our agreement to purchase 787 Dreamliners is a significant step forward in the optimisation of our route network, enhancing service and the overall flight experience. These aircraft are the latest and most advanced in the world and are efficient and economical.”

Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO, Ray Conner says: “The Dreamliner is a perfect fit for El Al’s medium to long haul routes. The addition of 787s to the El Al fleet will enable it to grow its route structure, while providing more range and capacity.”
