Cainiao Clinches Gold and Silver Stevie® Awards for Innovation, Sustainability and CSR Efforts

Cainiao Network, the logistics arm of Alibaba Group Holding Limited, was named the winners of the Gold Stevie® Award for Innovation in Transportation & Logistics, and the Silver Stevie® Award for Innovative Achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the 10th annual Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards last week.

Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word for “crowned,” the winners will be celebrated during a virtual (online) awards ceremony on 27 June 2023. The Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards are the only business awards program to recognize innovation in the workplace in all 29 nations of the Asia-Pacific region. The Stevie Awards are widely considered to be the world’s premier business awards, conferring recognition for achievement in programs such as The International Business Awards® for 21 years.

Innovation in Transportation & Logistics

The Gold Stevie® Award for Innovation in Transportation & Logistics indicates Cainiao’s ongoing efforts to reinforce innovation for the industry. To improve and boost the efficacy of communications systems within logistics operations, Cainiao developed an artificial intelligence (AI) eCommerce logistics digital collaboration platform that supports 90 percent of business, transportation, and logistics scenarios and inquiries. Today, this solution facilitates over 80 million private and secure communications daily.

This proprietary solution improves overall efficacy of communications systems, reduces labor costs, mitigates labor constraints, and supports the continuation of logistics operations with minimal human interaction or labor, all while enhancing customer satisfaction rates. It operates 24/7 online and its effective resolution rate reaches up to 85 percent, potentially reducing industry-wide labor costs by US$35.6 million a year.

Ding Hongwei, Vice President of Cainiao Network, said, “We are thrilled to be recognized for our R&D efforts in smart logistics as we champion digital transformation in the industry. We remain committed to developing cutting-edge technologies that optimize our operations, deliver exceptional value to our customers, and make a positive impact on society. The awards affirm Cainiao’s position as a leader in the logistics industry, and as we celebrate our 10th anniversary this year, we look forward to building on this success in the years ahead.”

Innovative Achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility

The Silver Stevie® Award for Innovative Achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility demonstrates Cainiao’s commitment to engage in impactful and sustainable development of its business and partner ecosystem. Cainiao’s ESG strategy is multi-faceted, and driven by technology and community-enabled sustainability initiatives which are embedded across the value chain to support sustainable development of communities and businesses, as well as drive job creation and rural revitalization. These include the expansion of Cainiao Post stations to drive domestic economic growth, and collaboration with global consumer brands to reduce supply chain carbon emissions with sustainable packaging.

Niu Zhijing, Vice President of Cainiao’s Public Communications and Marketing, and Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) Initiative, commented, “At Cainiao, we place a strong emphasis on developing long-term ESG capabilities. Together with merchants, service providers and consumers, we integrate our technology know-how with logistics capabilities to continuously drive the sustainable development of logistics.”

This year, Gold, Silver and Bronze Stevie Award winners were determined by the average scores of more than 100 executives around the world acting as judges in February and March.

“The 10th edition of the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards attracted many remarkable nominations,” said Stevie Awards president Maggie Miller. “The organizations that won this year have demonstrated that they are committed to being innovative, and we applaud them for their perseverance and creativity. We look forward to celebrating many of this year’s winners during our virtual awards ceremony on 27 June.”
