Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) celebrated South Carolina Aviation Week with a ceremony to mark the expansion of its cargo facility.
The $5 million 50,000 square foot expansion doubles the capacity of the current facility to allow for more freight shipments and continued growth of the airport’s cargo operations.

“We continue to see record-breaking volumes of cargo come through our world-class facility. This expansion will position us to continue to be a major player in the international supply chain. It’s incredibly gratifying to be a part of the aviation industry’s meaningful impacts on South Carolina,” David Edwards, GSP president and CEO, said.
“In order to grow in the future, we want to make sure that we’re making these investments in air cargo in order to have that positive economic impact that we’re all looking for in our community,” Edwards added.

The expansion comes a few years after GSP opened the air cargo facility to aid with the increasing demand for freight services in the region, seeking to position it to build on the growing demand for freight services in the Southeast.
In 2021, GSP handled 96,000 tons of cargo, an increase of more than 48% compared with 2020, according to US trade figures. The shipments saw GSP rank 21 in the US for international freight tonnage.
