Airfreight across European airports had another difficult month in May, experiencing the seventh consecutive months of declines, Airports Council International (ACI) Europe reports.
Airports inside the European Union saw traffic falling 2.3% while non-EU airports also declined by 1.6%.
Out of the top 10 European freight airports, only Madrid, Liege, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Frankfurt registered growth in May.
Frankfurt Airport maintained its position at the top with 0.6% growth to 174,849 tonnes, followed by Paris CDG growing 3.1% to 167,000 tonnes.
Despite a 7% fall in May, London Heathrow became the third busiest freight airport with 134,028 tonnes, overtaking Amsterdam Schiphol, which was down 7.6% to 133,648 tonnes.
Of the top 10 freight airports to grow, Liege was up 3.7% to 73,457 tonnes and Madrid by 4.5% to 44,790 tonnes.
The top four airports were all down in the first five months of 2019 at 2% for Frankfurt at 839,771 tonnes, 0.9% for CDG at 786,827 tonnes, 3.8% for Heathrow at 675,095 tonnes and Amsterdam by 7.5% to 643,604 tonnes.
