UPS has completed the multi-phase expansion of its Louisville Centennial ground package facility, supporting express services routed to the Worldport air hub at Louisville Muhammed Ali International Airport.

The expansion more than triples the size of the hub to over one million square feet, nearly doubling package sorting capacity, as well as creating 300 new full and part time jobs.

The hub’s proximity to UPS’s Worldport air hub supports services including UPS Next Day Air and UPS eFulfillment for e-commerce customers.

The Centennial hub can add packages to UPS’s air operations as late as 1.30am for delivery across the country the same day.

This expansion is part of how UPS is enabling companies of all sizes to deliver products when, where and how their customers want.”

The Centennial hub covers more than 19 football fields and can process 85,000 packages per hour via nearly 25 miles of conveyors using automated processing equipment.

High speed label applicators will place “smart labels” on packages at a rate of three per second, providing personnel instructions for proper routing and loading into waiting trailers or into package delivery vehicles.
