Ethiopian Cargo took delivery of its first Boeing 737-800 Freighter on 1 March, to be used on short haul services in Africa and the Middle East.

The 737-800 has a capacity of 23 tonnes, and joins the fleet of Boeing 777-200 Freighters, and passenger aircraft consisting of Airbus A350s, Boeing 787-8s and -9s, Boeing 777-300ERs and -200LRs, and Bombardier Q400s.

Tewolde GebreMariam, group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines says: “The B-737-800 Freighter will give us a new capability to serve short haul destinations in African and the Middle East more economically which includes the export of Ethiopian meat, fruits and vegetables to the Gulf Region. As per our strategic roadmap, Vision 2025, we will keep introducing new systems and technologies and play an indispensable role to the socio-economic development of Ethiopia and Africa at large.”
