New parking area at Liege Airport as it invests heavily in cargo

Torsten Wefers joins Liege Airport

Liege Airport has invested in four new parking areas for large aircraft as part of a major investment prioritising cargo.

The hub, which is the 8th largest cargo airport in European and the largest in Belgium, is investing more than €50 million ($60 million) in cargo.

The investment for the parking areas amounts to €30 million, and follows on from the decision in November for a further 20,000m2 of space for cargo.

Liege Airport chief executive airport, Luc Partoune says: “The increase in volume we have seen in 2017 shows no sign of slowing down in 2018. We need to anticipate this growth and speed up the development plan we had in place.”

The new parking areas for aircraft will be operational in 2019, falling within the Flexpress strategy, which prioritises cargo.

The airport is expecting a record year in 2017 with more than 700,000 tonnes handled.
