LUG increases Health Care Center capacity and undergoes IATA CEIV

LUG aircargo handling has increased the capacity of its Health Care Center (HCC) to 650 square metres as it undergoes IATA CEIV Pharma certification.

Eight rooms of different sizes are available offering storage at temperatures ranging from -18C and 2-8C to 15-25C, with adjustable temperature settings depending on requirements and volumes. A further expansion of the facility to 1,200 square metres is also possible.

LUG is undergoing the International Air Transport Association Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics program, to further enhance existing processes and independent auditors verify the handling quality.

Staff training complements the investments in infrastructure, technical equipment and processes, and LUG should be certified by the end of the first quarter of 2018.

LUG aircargo handling senior project manager, Dominik Misskampf

LUG aircargo handling chief executive officer, Patrik Tschirch says: “We are undertaking considerable investments in the area of temperature sensitive cargo handling with the expansion and modernisation of the HCC.”

“We are thus adapting our facilities to our new client structure. From October, we have Emirates SkyCargo in our customer portfolio, an airline with a relatively high share of life science and health care shipments ex Frankfurt/Main.”

Dominik Misskampf was hired on 1 July 2017 as senior project manager to handle the expansion project, and will look after enhancing processes and their adaptation to the new infrastructure, as well as the IATA certification.

He was previously responsible for various supply chain optimisation projects at Ground Handling Services Fraport, and he is also the head of the Competence Team Pharma of the Air Cargo Community Frankfurt.

Misskampf says he has gained a very good impression of the daily operations and capabilities of the staff at LUG, saying: “I am delighted to be part of the LUG team and to make a contribution to the expansion of the HCC. The project is an important step to increase the performance of the company and to safeguard and strengthen its competitiveness.”
