Virgin Atlantic Cargo makes senior sales team appointments

Virgin Atlantic Cargo has made two senior appointments to its sales team, which it says comes at a time it is seeing soaring volumes, most notably from its home market in the UK.

Ryan Ellis (pictured above left) takes up the position of head of global accounts while Ray Wood (pictured above right) joins the airline as regional sales manager for the UK.

Ellis will be based at Virgin Atlantic’s VHQ headquarters close to London Gatwick Airport, and succeeds Steve Hughes, who left the airline in April. He joined Virgin Atlantic in 2010 and most recently was head of GSA territory management.

Wood was previously responsible for global key accounts covering the UK & Ireland and EMEA for IAG Cargo and also spent 14 years with Lufthansa Cargo in a number of sales roles.

The carrier says in the first five months of 2017 global volumes are up year-on-year (YOY) by 7 per cent and UK volumes are up YOY by 13 per cent.

Virgin Atlantic vice president of sales, Steve Buckerfield says: “In his earlier sales role, Ryan helped to deliver a significant increase in our European business so he brings great experience to the very important post of head of global accounts.

“As a newcomer to the airline, Ray brings a wealth of experience gained over 30 years in the air cargo industry and is also highly respected by customers, especially in the UK market.”
