Doha’s Hamad International Airport (HIA) has posted strong year-on-year growth in cargo handling from January to June of 2017, making it its busiest six month period in its history.

The Qatari airport handled 980,000 tonnes of cargo during the period and HIA’s cargo operations grew a significant 19 per cent compared to the same period in the previous year.

HIA chief operating officer, Badr Mohammed Al Meer says: “Our growing passenger figures and cargo operations are a testament to our resilient and sustainable airport operations.

“Our promise of operational excellence is at the core of our business. HIA is a robust organisation backed by a committed and hardworking team.”

In 2016, the Airports Council International (ACI) ranked Hamad International Airport as the  16th busiest cargo gateway in the world, up from 20th in 2015. ACI says the hub handled 1,758,074 tonnes, 20.8 per cent rise on the previous year.
