Volga-Dnepr Airlines used a combination of a Boeing 747 scheduled service and an Ilyushin IL-76TD-90VD charter to cut the cost of delivering a 12.6 tonne gas turbine to a power station in Yangon, Myanmar.
The 560x260x250cm turbine started its journey on board an AirBridgeCargo Airlines scheduled service from Chicago to Hanoi before being transferred to a Volga-Dnepr IL-76, marking the first time such a transfer operation had been undertaken at the airport.
Volga-Dnepr charter sales representative in the APAC region, Quentin Bond says: “Although speed was the main priority for this transportation, our solution also provided the customer with a significant cost saving over some of the other options they were considering.”
“Our ability to combine AirBridgeCargo’s scheduled network with the requirements of our charter customers means we can always look at ways to make deliveries highly cost efficient.”
He says Volga-Dnepr having its own team in Hanoi to complete necessary planning, source the required handling equipment, and liaise with the airport authorities made the whole operation seamless for the customer.
