AIA Cargo has assisted the UK’s aid effort to Haiti following Hurricane Matthew by sending 23 tonnes including shelter kits.

Cargo from the Department for International Development left Gatwick Airport including shelter kits for 5,000 people, and further aid will include temporary shelters, equipment to purify and carry safe drinking water and solar lights. The aid is being sent over on a number of Thomson Airways flights.

AIA Cargo general manager for Europe, Mark Andrew says: “AIA is proud to have taken part in this relief effort. Haiti is a place close to our hearts having teamed up this year to help provide a new roof for a local charity The Mango Tree Village.”

“Mango Tree Village which was started in the wake of the 2010 earthquake provides shelter, food & water, medical attention, clothes and an education for the orphans of Haiti.”

“We wish to thank all the staff at Thomson, WFS and the Department for International Development who assisted in the seamless lift of this vital cargo from the UK.”
