Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has seen cargo volumes fall by one per cent in May despite transhipments growing strongly.

Total volumes in May were down from 366,000 tonnes in 2015 to 362,000 tonnes this year. Transhipments were up by six per cent but volumes were hit by imports falling four per cent and exports dipping two per cent.

HKIA says North America saw the most significant fall.

During the first five months of 2015, cargo volumes were down by two per cent to 1.7 million tonnes by 1.3 per cent to 4.34 million tonnes over the past 12 months.
