The first ever cargo airport will be built in northern Nigeria as the Yobe State government will soon award a contract for construction, according to media reports.
Nigerian media report the state’s commissioner for works, transport and energy, Sirajo Wakil as explaining the move on Sunday.
The say the airport, which would be for ticketing as well as for cargo, would be located in Damaturu, the state capital.
Wakil says Yobe is only state among the 19 northern states of the country without an airport, adding that this informed the decision to build one and the northern Nigeria was in need of a cargo gateway.
The new cargo hub would reportedly handle the exports of meat, dairy, among other products.
